Detroit Lions Announce Flurry of Roster Moves ahead of Rams Game
© Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions announced a flurry of roster moves leading up to their Wild Card matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

Cornerback Jerry Jacobs and tight end James Mitchell were officially placed on injured reserve, ending their seasons.

Mitchell underwent surgery Friday to repair a hand injury, while Jacobs is dealing with a lower-body injury.

In corresponding moves, tight end Anthony Firkser and Chase Lucas were signed to the active roster.

Defensive lineman Tyson Alualu and fullback Jason Cabinda have been elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's game.

Lucas was waived prior to Week 17 in order to create a roster spot for kicker Michael Badgley.

After clearing waivers, he returned to the Lions on the practice squad. He has played in 12 games this season primarily on special teams.

Alualu and Firkser have both played two games as elevations during the regular season. A 14-year veteran, Alualu has four tackles with the Lions this season.

Firkser, meanwhile, has yet to record a catch. The Lions' depth at tight end has been taxed in recent weeks. Mitchell is out and star rookie Sam LaPorta's status is uncertain with a knee injury.

The Lions and Rams are set to square off at 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford Field. Detroit is in search of its first playoff win since 1991.
