NHL best bets: Two goal-scorer props for Capitals-Flames

We begin a new week on the ice, and hope to see better results than the week we've left behind. Monday has not given us many options, so we'll opt for a different approach in the player prop market, focused on some goal scorers.

Goal props have been kinder to me than most lately, and I tend to go as the momentum takes me. It's for that reason we turn here in the game that I see as more inviting to scoring: the Washington Capitals vs. Calgary Flames.

Both of these bets are .5u wagers.

Nazem Kadri goal (+210 FanDuel)

Capitals vs. Flames, 8:30 p.m. ET

I loaded up Nazem Kadri props last night, as to me it was the clearest spot of interest from the home end. Calgary's offense should room to operate against this Washington defense, and I'm drawn to Kadri as top-line center with Washington allowing the seventh-most shots per game to centers over the last 10 games.

Kadri has 12 SOG on 22 attempts in his past two games, and he now has logged 9+ attempts in three of his last four. This isn't only a quantity game either with Kadri, though more shooting never hurts the cause when you're looking for some goal scoring.

Yes, Kadri scored on Saturday on the power play, but when you look at his recent 5v5 numbers, he's incredibly due to notch a goal when you consider the amount of high-danger chances and expected goals he's generating, with nothing to show for it.

Given the quality of his looks and the volume he's working with, I like his chances to get on the board tonight.

Connor McMichael goal (+340 FD)

Capitals vs. Flames, 8:30 p.m. ET

We stick with top-line centers and turn to the Capitals end with Connor McMichael. Calgary has been one of the most vulnerable defenses lately for center production, both in terms of shots and goals allowed to the position.

They also have tended to allow the most scoring from opposing top lines of late, which checks the boxes I want to see for McMichael here.

McMichael leads Washington in 5v5 high-danger chances over their last five games, and he's scored in two of his past three, both of which came on the road. He also scored last time he faced the Flames, so at this price, I'll dance.
